Turmi è un villaggio che non ha altro di interessante che il mercato del lunedì dove gli Hamer arrivano dai villaggi vicini per vendere e comperare. E se gli affari sono andati bene, ci rimane tempo anche per passare ai bar locali per una bella bevuta. Purtroppo il turismo espresso si fa sempre più invadente. In pochi minuti le numerose fuoristrada bianche delle agenzie, con i portapacchi pieni di borsoni, scaricano decine di turisti. Un rapido giro nella piazzetta del mercato,  contrattare la foto con la ragazza Hamer, che fa da comparsa tipo cinema, e via di nuovo in viaggio. Mi da l'idea di quei gruppi di turisti asiatici che in 4 giorni visitano tutta l'Italia. Sia gli uni che gli altri hanno capito tutto  degli Hamer che della cultura italiana. Noi non abbiamo pagato un birr, eppure, di foto con lo zoom, ne abbiamo scattate a centinaia. Due giorni a Turmi è più che sufficiente anche perché, quasi nessuno qui parla inglese. Con i gesti va bene fino ad un certo punto, e poi? Abbiamo chiacchierato, si fa per dire, con una venditrice  Amhara di sandali di pneumatici, molto gettonata. Ci ha spiegato la differenza dei pesanti collari, di metallo e no, che le donne portano al collo; quelle che hanno un collare con lungo perno davanti è la prima moglie.Poiché anche presso l'etnia Hamer esiste la poligamia. Gli uomini portano orecchini a seconda di quante mogli hanno.

 Turmi est un village qui n'a rien d'autre d'intéressant que le marché du lundi où les Hamers viennent des villages voisins pour vendre et acheter. Et si les affaires se sont bien passées, ils ont encore le temps d'aller dans les bars locaux pour prendre un bon verre. Malheureusement, le tourisme express devient de plus en plus intrusif. En quelques minutes, les nombreux véhicules tout-terrain blancs des agences, avec les porte-bagages pleins de sacs, déchargent des dizaines de touristes. Une rapide visite de la place du marché, négociation de la photo avec la fille Hamer, qui fait une apparition comme au cinéma, et c'est reparti. Cela me donne l'idée de ces groupes de touristes asiatiques qui visitent l'Italie en 4 jours. Tous les deux ont tout compris des Hamers et de la culture italienne. Nous n'avons pas payé un birr, mais nous avons pris des centaines de photos avec le zoom. Deux jours à Turmi sont plus que suffisants, également parce que presque personne ici ne parle anglais. Avec des gestes, ça va jusqu'à un certain point, et ensuite? Nous avons discuté, pour ainsi dire, avec un vendeur Amhara de sandales à pneus. Il a expliqué la différence entre les colliers en métal lourd et non métalliques que les femmes portent autour du cou; ceux qui ont un collier avec une longue épingle devant est la première épouse, car la polygamie existe également au sein de l'ethnie Hamer. Les hommes portent des boucles d'oreilles en fonction du nombre de femmes qu'ils ont.

A quick tour of the market square, a photo call with the Hamer girl, who acts as a movie-style extra, and off we go again. It gives me the idea of ​​those groups of Asian tourists who visit all of Italy in 4 days. Both have understood everything about the Hamer and Italian culture. We didn't pay a birr, and yet, we took hundreds of photos with the zoom. Two days in Turmi is more than enough, also because, almost no one here speaks English. With gestures you can get by up to a certain point, and then? We chatted, so to speak, with a very popular Amhara woman selling tire sandals. She explained the difference between the heavy collars, metal and otherwise, that women wear around their necks; those who have a collar with a long pin in front are the first wives. Because polygamy also exists among the Hamer ethnic group. Men wear earrings depending on how many wives they have. 

 La maggior parte delle donne si cospargono la pelle di polvere rossa, segno di benessere e per proteggersi dai raggi del sole, aggiungo io. Idem per le treccine dei capelli, ma polvere mescolata a burro. Stesso trattamento della pelle lo si può vedere presso gli Himba dell'Angola e Namibia.

Most women cover their skin with red powder, a sign of well-being and to protect themselves from the sun's rays, I might add. The same goes for braiding their hair, but powder mixed with butter. The same skin treatment can be seen among the Himba of Angola and Namibia.

 Un mercato differente di quelli del Sahel; mi ha dato l'idea di calma, di tranquillità. Nessuno sembrava andare di corsa o voglia di ritornare al proprio insediamento: a che fare, poi? Qui ci si incontra, si fa mercato, si chiacchiera, si fanno nuove amicizie, le ultime novità, i ragazzi adocchiano le ragazze ancora non promesse spose, c'è da bere la birra locale, arrivano numerosi i turisti che bene o male lasciano birr per scattare foto; altre turiste invece si fanno commuovere dai furbi ragazzini che si fanno vedere in giro senza sandali, e queste commosse, ne acquistano per tutti; una volta partita la turista bionda, i sandali vengono rivenduti a metà prezzo e il giro continua con la turista mora.  ( fotografato le scene ).

Abbiamo visto solo due donne anziane con gli anelli alle caviglie. Pare che sia una moda che va scomparendo, pesano e feriscono durante gli spostamenti che avvengono sempre camminando. Sono stati sostituiti dalle perline colorate, più leggere e meno costose.

Uomini di etnia Hamer. Si coprono parte del capo con una calotta d'argilla dove sono infisse piume di uccelli ( tutti dicono che sono di struzzo, mah). Indossano un corto gonnellino di tessuto che con maestria riescono a manovrarlo per coprirsi la parti intime al momento di sedersi sul "borkota".

 Il "borkota"  lo sgabello per sedersi che serve anche da appoggiatesta. E' un oggetto cult presso gli uomini Hamer e tutti ne possiedono uno; un pò come per noi le borsette delle signore.

The "borkota" is a stool for sitting that also serves as a headrest. It is a cult object among Hamer men and everyone has one; a bit like women's handbags for us.

 Questo gruppetto di donne è arrivato al mercato in tarda mattinata. Sicuramente hanno fatto molti chilometri a piedi e cariche, come si può notare, di fagotti e contenitori di zucca; la stanchezza ha marcato il loro viso.

 Uomini Hamer  che calzano sandali ricavati da vecchi pneumatici di auto, e sempre con il "borkota" in mano. Bracciali di rame, formati da più anelli, al polso e all'avambraccio. E tanti orecchini per quante mogli hanno.
